Levi Jordan, Sr.

West Haven native Levi Jordan Sr. has dedicated himself to providing guidance and wisdom to the city’s youth. As an elementary student, Jordan left his academic stamp at Savin Rock and Forest schools. At Carrigan School, he was captain of the basketball team and played for the West Haven Seahawks. He later played varsity basketball and was captain of the track and field team at West Haven High. As a Blue Devil, he won the Class LL State Football Championship as starting running back and safety, and was a member of the CT DECA 2004.

While attending Southern Connecticut State University, life began to shift as the pressure to survive and the influence of the streets caused him to be confined and reflect on his future. Little did he know that crafting and motivating awaited him as he pursued barbering. Under the mentorship of Earnest Troy Turner, Jordan learned his gift was not only to share wisdom with the Black men who sat in his chair, but also with all young men and women of color in the community searching for hope.

In 2013-14, he teamed up with Transformerz Barbershop to host the 1st and 2nd Annual Back To School Bonanzas, which provided backpacks, school supplies, free haircuts, etc. to over 200 children and 150 families. As Event Coordinator and Co-Founder of CT Groomerz, he was named the 2014 Event Coordinator of the Year by the New Haven Register.

Levi Jordan is a pillar in the community as well as a devoted husband and father. He and his wife Shayna have six beautiful children. While dedicating himself to multiple roles, he continued to strive for positive engagement for the youth of West Haven. In 2018, he began coaching the West Haven Seahawks, West Haven Youth Basketball, and 13U.

In 2023, Jordan established The Best Of The West LLC and held the 1st Annual Basketball & Culture event, which was supported by over 20 West Haven businesses, and the Best Of The West Summer Football Camp. The 1st Annual Flag Football Tournament hosted over 400 kids to a mini camp led by current and former professional and college players. He dedicated the 2nd Annual Football Tournament to the late Ed McCarthy, and the Alumni Scholarship game raised over $500 for student-athletes. The 3rd Arts & Basketball tournament featured over 600 young athletes and “The WEST Report,” a digital news medium to highlight youth of West Haven and Greater New Haven through interviews, live streams and post-game reports.

Currently, Jordan coaches the Bailey Boys Basketball team and the West Haven High Freshman Football team. As an outreach specialist at West Haven High, he checks grades, attendance, and the hearts and minds of the youth.

In 2023, Levi Jordan Sr. was inducted into the Connecticut Hall of Change. He strives to be an amazing role model and example of how to use one’s God-given gifts.
